1 comment“Green”/Sustainable Facilities are not a fad
When the term Green Building came out, I thought it was a fad. I had envisioned a bunch of tree huggers huddled in
Oregon (no offense, I was born in Portland) eating granola and twigs while conjuring up ideas to make our lives miserable. Green, sustainable and LEED are all terms that are becoming vernacular to most people who are associated with the development and maintenance of any facility. The idea behind these movements is far more than just “tree hugging”…it makes good business/financial sense. Not just to take care of the planet God has entrusted to us (that is a more detailed topic for another day) but also to reduce operating costs….and in most cases a lot of cost. - 19 Sep

No commentsAmerican Express No. 1 in customer service survey
A couple weeks ago I was listening to the radio (me and my talk radio…my kids do not understand how I can listen to
it…me either somethings) and heard a new report about how American Express had just been ranked the best credit card company for customer service. The 2010 U.S. Credit Card Satisfaction Study by JD Power is based on responses from more than 8,500 credit card customers. The study was fielded in May and June 2010.This is the 4th consecutive year that American has won out over Discover, US Bank, Wells Fargo, and the rest of the pack. According to the report:

No commentsWhat would the “perfect” church development/building partner look like?
I want to take a survey and need your help.
If you could start from scratch, with a blank sheet of paper…and “design” the perfect company to work with churches to develop physical facilities for ministries…..what would it look like?

What attributes would it posses?
What services would it offer?
What systems or process would make it hum?
What would it NOT look like?
Is there a particular construction Delivery Method that it would adhere to?
Would it do construction?
Would it perform design services?

What would differentiate it from what is available today?

1 commentProactive vs. Reactive Facility Management
If you have been following these posts for any period of time, you know that we have explored the difference between facility maintenance and Facility
Management. You can read more on this here. As part of that discussion we looked at the differences between proactive and reactive maintenance.Well, recently I was tracking a LinkedIn conversation with a Facility Management (FM) “group” that I am a member. I found the discussion to be very interesting…and I think you will too. Keep in mind that these are people providing facility management services in the “secular” arena (i.e. complex commercial buildings…wait…don’t forget our ministry facilities are also complex commercial buildings…Hmmm). As you read these, substitute the word “company” with either church or ministry.

No commentsLives – Love – Legacy
This past week was monumental for me and our family. First, our triplets turned 14….and I still have all of my hair (just not any money or sanity). Secondly, my parents, A.J. and Leona Cool celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. That is monumental. That is truly incredible.

As I thought about their anniversary, I wrote them an e-mail…and yes, they have e-mail, which is also impressive seeing that they are technological aliens (meaning they were not raised with technology). I want to share with you that e-mail:
