We are all familiar with a trellis in a garden or yard. It is the structure constructed to support the growth of a vine or other plant. In most cases, once the vine or plant is fully grown, the trellis is virtually unseen and is clearly in the background so that the reason for the trellis can be fully visible and enjoyed by the onlookers. However, we cannot totally forget about the trellis. It needs some attention as well. It needs some maintenance…some addition if the vine overruns it…some replacing of slates as some deteriorate and so on. So what you end up with is “Trellis Work” and “Vine Work”. Both have their place and both need attention.
So…why do we say that we are involved in Trellis Work? Just as some sort of frame work is needed to help a vine or plant grow, so our churches, ministries and organizations also need some structure and support. It may not be much, but every organization has some kind of trellis that gives shape and support to the Vine Work. As the organization grows, the trellis also needs attention. Buildings, facility management/maintenance, finances, administration, and infrastructure – these all become more important and more complex as the vine/plant grows. In this sense, good trellis workers and inevitable and all growing organizations need them. HOWEVER, organizations are not in existence to focus their primary attention on trellis work…but rather on Vine Work. The common mistakes most organization make is that they allow trellis work to take over from the vine work. When this happens, the Vine suffers and people take the eye off the ball.

Since 1986, Tim has assisted more than 250 churches and ministry organizations, throughout the United States, with their facilities needs. While employed by a national church building organization, Tim collaborated with the Christian community in the areas of facility needs analysis, design coordination, and consultation. As projects progressed, Tim coordinated the site/property analysis, team integration/leadership, financing and construction. Tim has a thorough knowledge of facilities and their systems.
Tim has also been a conference speaker at numerous national conferences and seminars. He teaches on topics of interest to growing churches and the impact the physical facility has on the organization. His experience and expertise makes him one of the most sought out experts in church/ministry organization development and processes.
He maintains his national membership with the International Code Council for building codes. He is also a member of The National Association of Church Business Administrators, National Association of Church Facility Managers and the International Facilities Managers Association. Tim has been an active member of C12 (Christian Business Organization) for more than 4 years and is a member of Elevation Church in Charlotte, NC.
Tim has been married to his best friend, Lisa, for 25 years and resides in Charlotte, NC with their 13-year-old triplets. In his spare time, Tim enjoys playing the trumpet, vacationing in the mountains and doodling on several social networks.
