Last week we started a 2 part series by Bryan Miles of Miles Advisory Group Strategic Outsiders Part 2

Bryan left us hanging in the middle of an analogy…if you missed it (or have slept since the last post)…check it out here…then read on…

Part 2 (2 of 2)

You made a wise decision, you went with your gut instinct, and yet, you still needed help. What if no one from the outside came in to help?

Over the years, as a strategic outsider for churches, helping them with complex opportunities and challenges, I have witnessed first-hand the consequences of churches going it alone. They thinking that … because they know who they are better than anyone else … they should execute their ideas without outside, objective counsel. Carnage with church staffs, irritated elders, confused attendees, and millions of dollars later … a church finally comes to its senses.

No church is static. Your church is either in growth or decline. In fact, most surveys suggest that from 2010 to 2020, US church campuses (Christian-based) will decrease from 400,000 to 280,000 campuses … meaning, a net loss of 120,000 campuses/churches. The American church landscape is changing. Scaling solutions and staffs to meet the ever-changing needs of tomorrow’s church must stay at the forefront of the church leader’s mind.

Where does that put you? Will you continue to go-it-alone or decide to seek outside counsel? If you decide to seek outside counsel will it be from outside your church? Though, obviously there for a good reason, even your elders are often times too close to your church to see through the weeds clearly.Outsourcing 200x55 Strategic Outsiders Part 2

Outside counsel … aka Strategic Outsiders … are often built from the same trenches you find yourself in now. Seek their counsel. Chew on their ideas. Wrestle with what they are suggesting. Believe in their examples and experience. They will help you execute better and keep your DNA safe. God will place strategic outsiders in your own personal life for you to leverage. Why wouldn’t He do the same for your church’s life as well?

Thanks Bryan for these insights…I believe that the strategies outlined in this series have a great deal more validity in today’s church than ever before. This is true in many aspects of the operation of the church than ever before.
